These terms apply to everyone who uses SurveyBase.uz — whether you deposit data or only read it. Using the site means you accept them.
What this site is
SurveyBase.uz is an open archive of anonymized survey results about Uzbekistan and Central Asia. It stores and publishes data that other people collected. It does not run surveys, does not check whether the underlying research is sound, and does not endorse any conclusion drawn from it.
Your account
Give a real name and a real email address — your name is the credit that appears on everything you deposit. Keep your password to yourself; anything done through your account is treated as done by you. We can suspend an account that is used to publish data it has no right to publish.
What you may deposit
Only data you have the right to publish, under the licence you choose, and only after removing everything that identifies a respondent. If your respondents were promised confidentiality, honour that promise — a consent form that did not mention publication is a reason not to deposit. Do not upload anyone else's data as your own.
The licence you grant
You keep every right you had in your data. By depositing, you licence it to the public under the licence you selected in the deposit form, and you allow us to store it, convert it between formats, display summaries of it and distribute it for that purpose. An open licence cannot be withdrawn from people who already relied on it, which is why the choice is made before publication rather than after.
Moderation
Every deposit is reviewed before it appears. We can reject one, ask for changes, or unpublish something already live — usually because it contains personal data, because the documentation is not enough to make the data usable, or because the depositor turns out not to hold the rights. A rejection comes with a reason and does not stop you from depositing again.
Using the data
Cite what you use — every dataset page prints the citation to copy. Follow the dataset's own licence, which may require more. Do not try to re-identify respondents, link records to individuals, or combine datasets to that end. That is the one rule this archive exists to protect and breaking it ends access.
No warranty
The data is published as it was deposited. We do not verify sampling, fieldwork or coding, and we cannot promise a dataset is accurate, complete or fit for any particular analysis. Check it before you rely on it, and expect the site itself to be unavailable occasionally.
Liability and governing law
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from using the site or the data published on it. [Governing law and jurisdiction — to be filled in once the operating entity is registered.]
Complaints and takedowns
If a dataset infringes your rights, exposes personal data, or breaks these terms, write to the address below with the dataset link and what is wrong. Anything that plausibly contains personal data is taken offline while we look at it, and you get an answer either way.
Changes to these terms
These terms can change. The date at the top of the page shows when they last did, and account holders are emailed before a change that affects deposits already published.
